What is the luggage plan for Reno? I am just thinking of checking in my bigger bag to Denver when we arrive into Reno, and just carry my smaller bag around with me. What are others thinking of doing?
Reno
If things go correctly, we should arrive in Reno mid-morning on Wednesday, and leave the same afternoon. Unless we are more than several hours late westbound, we should have ample time for lunch. There are several casino hotels with sitdown restaurant service or buffets within walking distance of the Reno Amtrak station.

That is something I hadn't yet considered. Would it be possible to store it with Amtrak personnel at the station during our time in town? What is the luggage plan for Reno? The station description says "No Baggage Storage", so I figured one can just use checked baggage service with a little advanced planning. That is something I hadn't yet considered. Would it be possible to store it with Amtrak personnel at the station during our time in town?

Usually a hotel that hosts events of any sort at all, will store bags even if you are not staying there. It is not uncommon for business folks to arrive in the morning with bag and baggage. Store away the bags, attend a meeting and then ick up the bags in the evening and be on their way. I did that last Friday at the Omni Parker House in Boston. No fuss, no muss.Wow!! What a pain. I assumed that station would have storage. A nearby hotel might be possible too. I've never stored a bag In a hotel without staying. At that time if day the bell person might assume the room is not ready. So this might work.
I'll probably keep my bag with me if the hotel thing doesn't work. I don't want to check it if I don't have to.
In Reno, it looks like Harrah's Reno next door to Amtrak RNO would be happy to store bags if you can convince them that you are going to the Casino.

Well, Harrah's Reno is one place I had in mind for lunch, if we could get a buffet at lunchtime similar to what we had at Harrah's New Orleans back in 2011. Whether patronizing the casino or the restaurant, one usually has to pass through the casino, and they don't want luggage dragged through there. So it might be a possibility. In Reno, it looks like Harrah's Reno next door to Amtrak RNO would be happy to store bags if you can convince them that you are going to the Casino.

Thanks Jis, I think that is a great suggestion. I had been trying to figure out how to get my overnight stuff into my backpack together with the stuff I normally carry in my backpack.
I am not a gambler, and had not planned to "gamble" in Reno, but I did think about walking through the casino to people watch. About a half hour ago, I told one of my friends who lives in my condo building that I would be in Reno and probably storing my luggage at Harrah's. He offered to give me $100 to gamble on slot machines. I may take him up on it.

See, I had to consider that since I did not want to get stuck guarding everyone's baggage like I did once in St. Louis as I seem to recall. That is something I hadn't yet considered. Would it be possible to store it with Amtrak personnel at the station during our time in town?

It was St. Louis (not Salt Lake), at the "temporary" Amtrak station before Gateway Station opened.See, I had to consider that since I did not want to get stuck guarding everyone's baggage like I did once in Salt Lake City as I seem to recall.
