Old South Ferry Subway Station Will Reopen Tomorrow!
The new South Ferry station is still out of commission after being devastated by Hurricane Sandy—and it's unlikely to be back for up to three years! So the MTA is going forward with re-opening the "old" South Ferry station. The MTA confirms that 1 train service to South Ferry will resume at 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Just don't forget: you have to be in the first five cars!

South Ferry subway station reopens to public after Sandy damage
Subway trains returned to the South Ferry station Thursday morning for the first time since Hurricane Sandy flooded lower Manhattan in late October.

MTA New York City Transit's old South Ferry Station reopened for business at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, re-establishing a subway-ferry transfer point severed since Hurricane Sandy flooded large portions of lower Manhattan late last October.

What they don't mention is the other segment that has been out of service since Sandy -- the part between Beach 90th Street and Rockaway Park (Beach 116th Street), below where the current H line has terminated since it was instituted 3 weeks after the storm.

Subway to resume service to Rockaways
The MTA and Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the A train subway will run its route all the way to the Rockaways starting May 30, seven months after Superstorm Sandy washed away the track support bed, leaving tracks hanging in midair. Crews rebuilt the entire bed.

Governor Cuomo announces May 30 Restoration of Service
On May 16, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced service on the storm-damaged Rockaway line of the train will resume May 30 after an all-out, six-month MTA effort to rebuild the 3.5 mile-long stretch of the Rockaway flats including 1,500 feet of washed out tracks, replace miles of signal, power and communications wires, and rehabilitate two stations that were completely flooded.
