L.A. Metro Source, 1/29/21:
Work begins on Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for C Line (Green) Extension to Torrance
The C Line (Green) Extension to Torrance project is studying light rail transit options between the existing Redondo Beach Station and the under-construction Torrance Transit Center. Trains from both the Metro C Line (Green) and the future Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project may run on this new extension.
The Crenshaw/LAX line is supposed to be opening later this year, and if this article is true, then they still haven't figured out the operating plan for integrating the Crenshaw/LAX line with the existing C (Green) Line. The latest plan was to have the existing C (Green) Line run west from Norwalk and then turn north covering the entire Crenshaw/LAX line to Expo/Crenshaw. Another line, presumably to be named the K Line, would start at Willowbrook/Rosa Parks and run west and then south to cover the remainder of the existing C (Green) Line. It would therefore be the K Line that would be extended to Torrance. I would not mind seeing all possible route combinations at the junction covered, but I think there was an issue with the number of LRT cars and the lengths of station platforms that drove the decision.
