Montreal’s $6.3-billion rail project to get under way with SNC overseeing construction
Montreal's biggest public transportation project in 50 years is officially in the starting blocks. Canada's SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. and five partners will build it. France's Alstom SA and SNC-Lavalin will equip it. Now, its promoter, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, has to prove it can run down the track.

It's nice to see Montreal joining the light rail fraternity. Back in 1959, the city got rid of its traditional streetcar system in 1959. Part of the fleet consisted of four open air trolleys with tiered seating that Montreal Tramways used for sightseeing excursions. Both Seashore Trolley Museum and Connecticut Trolley Museum have each preserved preserved one of these cars. Here's a photo from Seashore's collection.
