Glendale City Council frets over light-rail impacts
Valley Metro leaders at a meeting last week got a taste of the opposition they could face from some business interests in choosing a route for a connection from downtown Glendale to Phoenix.

Amazing that it's that far down the road.... if they even can stick to that schedule. But reading onward, they don't even know the mode yet. Obviously one seat rides on a single light rail line as a branch or extension of the existing line would make the most sense. There are also plans to take a line further north to a regional shopping mall, so I would expect that Glendale would end up being another branch.Construction would begin in 2023 and finish by 2026, linking downtown Glendale to Phoenix at 19th Avenue either by a rapid bus, streetcar or light rail. Valley Metro will host more public meetings and analyze the best modes and routes before bringing a recommendation to the council.

In 2013, Valley Metro, in partnership with the cities of Glendale and Phoenix, and the local community, initiated a transit corridor study for the West Phoenix/Central Glendale area to identify high-capacity transit service options to connect downtown Glendale to the existing light rail system. The purpose of the study is to determine a route location and a type of transit (light rail or bus rapid transit) that will best serve the area from 19th Avenue to downtown Glendale.
