San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) says that measures taken to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic have pushed back the date passengers will be able to use the line. Since many of the workers in the tunnel have to work close to one another, three separate coronavirus outbreaks forced quarantine periods. Delivery of materials and equipment was also slow due to the pandemic restrictions.[/size]

Muni is restarting some above ground light rail service this month after what will be a nine-month suspension, although the underground subway will remain closed into the spring, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced Tuesday.

    Muni Brings Back T-Third Train, Some Buses This Weekend; N-Judah May Return In February  

 

 

The Muni Metro system is slowly coming back alive, and you may have seen out-of-service trains getting moved around and systems being tested over the holiday weekend. Come Saturday, January 23, the T-Third Street line will be coming back into service, along with a few old and new bus routes.

   Muni Subway Not Expected to Reopen Until May    

 
 
Getting the Muni subway ready for passengers is apparently taking longer than expected.
 
According to a presentation set to be given at SFMTA’s Tuesday board meeting, Muni subway service is not expected to resume until sometime in May, when the N Judah and T Third trains from Embarcadero to West Portal will be back in service.

   Muni Underground Returns May 15 With Full Service on K and N Lines  

 

 

Despite previous reports that we wouldn't see Muni's K, L, or M lines running in light-rail tunnels until early next year, the SFMTA has surprised us today with better-than-expected news — as opposed to the usual worse-than-expected updates they've become known for.

 

More
