If anyone does that, check carefully the cancellation policy before booking. Only do so if they allow same-day cancellation (usually by 4 or 6 PM date of arrival). And then should it become clear while in Chicago that we are going to make it, don't forget to cancel !! If Amtrak does provide misconnects with lodging on their dime, not sure where it is or what type of hotel you are going to end up in.If this goes on it would be in order to find a hotel in Chicago and then decide what to do next.

I'll be the "bearer of bad news."
49(8) Chicago: Arrived 7 hours and 28 minutes late (5:13 pm)
5(9) Chicago: Departed 1 hour and 5 minutes late (3:05 pm)
Some of 49's delay can be attributed to the tornado that hit upstate New York last night. I am doing my best to be optimistic about connections.

That's only bad news if it happens Saturday. I wonder what 49s performance has been just looking at Saturdays.
The 4-week average suggests the connection will be made. The latest arrival over the period provides 24 minutes for transfer and on-time departure of 5!
Over last 4 Saturdays:
Average Delay: 176.5 minutes
Shortest delay: 105 minutes (6/21)
Longest delay: 231 minutes (6/14)

And we would like a rested crew too.But then it has the whole night and half a day to recover from it, Sunnyside willing.
But we'll see what happens when somebody with 4 parcels gets on in Orlando and weighs the train down.and 98 is not doing too badly so far either.
