MARC service alert  10/2/20

MDOT MTA Service Change - Rider Notice

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) recently announced that the service adjustments proposed on September 1 for Local Bus, MARC and Commuter Bus will not be implemented and all public hearings on that plan will be canceled.  Core Local Bus and MobilityLink service in the Baltimore area will continue to operate on current schedules while Commuter Bus and MARC service will begin operating at reduced levels on November 2. (emphasis added)  The decision to make this adjustment is due to current of ridership trends across the modes and the significant public feedback MDOT MTA received on the initial proposal.

As MDOT MTA works to meet budgetary constraints amid the fiscal impact of COVID-19, the agency will continue to prioritize transit service for core riders, especially transit dependent households. Effective November 2, MDOT MTA will resume the following service levels, which were in place earlier during the COVID-19 health emergency:

MARC Train will operate on an enhanced R service schedule service.  (emphasis added)  For Brunswick Line passengers, please refer to the R schedule grid on the right side of the Brunswick Line timetable.  In addition, the following trains will operate or extend service in addition to the R schedule:

Train 872 (5:00am departure from Martinsburg) will operate and add stops at Dickerson, Boyds, and Garrett Park.

Train 877 (4:55pm departure from Union Station).

Train 875 (4:25pm departure from Union Station) will extend service to Harpers Ferry, Duffields, and Martinsburg.

This plan allows MDOT MTA more flexibility to respond to changes in transit demand as Maryland’s economy recovers.  Riders needing more information can visit mta.maryland.gov/coronavirus or call the Transit Information Contact Center at 410.539.5000.

Thank you for riding MDOT MTA.

MARC Train - Reminder of November 2 changes

As a reminder, effective Monday, November 2, MARC Train will begin operating service on an enhanced R schedule. This reduced service allows the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) to meet current budgetary constraints while having more flexibility to respond to changes in transit demand as Maryland’s economy recovers.

Riders needing more information can visit www.mta.maryland.gov/coronavirus (scroll down to MARC under Fall 2020 Service Modifications) or call the Transit Information Contact Center at 410.539.5000.

3/12/2021 6:45 PM

As the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) modifies it’s plan for select in-person learning, MDOT MTA will be adjusting service to transport students to those schools which are reopening. To support students during this transition, all BCPSS students will be able to ride Local Bus, Light Rail, or Metro Subway free from March 15 to March 22 while they obtain a valid student ID pass.

A complete list of updated school service is available at: https://www.mta.mary...ools/spring2021

MARC Penn Line - Minor adjustments to two trains

mta_em_hdr_09_2018.jpg

3/29/2021 11:55 AM

Amtrak is adjusting their schedules and returning some Acela Express departures to service as ridership increases. This will require two minor changes to the MARC Penn Line schedule. Effective Monday, April 4:

Train 532 will arrive at Edgewood, Aberdeen, and Perryville stations five minutes later, and

Train 634 will depart BWI, Halethorpe, West Baltimore and Penn Station five minutes EARLIER

These are the only two adjustments to Penn Line schedules. A full schedule change will take place in late May -- more details will be shared later.

Thank you for riding MARC Train.

Baltimore Sun vis Mass Transit magazine, 7/15/21:

MARC will return to normal this fall. But what’s the new normal for Maryland’s commuter rail riders?

Premal Shah boarded a 7:15 a.m. southbound MARC train to Washington at Halethorpe for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The 43-year-old, who works in information technology for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, commuted to Washington by train before COVID-19 prompted many workplaces to close last year and the Maryland Transit Administration to reduce MARC service.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to protect our customers and team members, all riders using public transit including MTA local bus, light rail, metro subway, commuter bus, MARC Train, and Mobility/para-transit service are REQUIRED to wear face coverings. Riders must keep the face covering on for the entire duration of the trip.

The face covering requirement applies for all passengers, vaccinated or unvaccinated.

This action supports the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Emergency Amendment number 1546-21-01A, which is currently effective until September 13, 2021.

Riders are encouraged to visit www.mta.maryland.gov/coronavirus call the Transit Information Contact Center at 410.539.5000.

8/12/2021 1:20 PM

All three MARC Train lines will return to full service on Monday, August 30. Camden Line passengers are reminded that there was a Camden Line schedule change on June 1, 2021. The full Camden Line schedule is available for download at www.mta.maryland.gov/schedule/stops/marc-camden . Good news for passengers at Riverdale Park Town Center! In response to customer feedback, we have taken two steps to improve service at this station: 1) Trains to Washington are no longer "L" stops - the departure time listed in the schedule is the actual departure time and 2) Trains 844, 848, 848 and 853 will now stop at Riverdale Park Town Center.

Thank you for riding MARC Train.
