Project update

Federal Way Link Extension tying in to existing light rail network at Angle Lake Station

The Federal Way Link Extension team is excited to share a major project milestone with the community! Work is now underway to connect the new Federal Way Link Extension power system, called the “overhead contact system”,  to the existing light rail network at Angle Lake Station. This process is an essential step in the completion of the Federal Way Link Extension. It will also allow us to store additional light rail vehicles just south of Angle Lake Station.

While we are connecting the tracks, light rail service at Angle Lake Station will look a little different. From May 12 until June 22, passengers travelling between Angle Lake Station and SeaTac/Airport Station on the 1 Line will experience scheduled service interruptions during necessary construction on the Link light rail system. To learn more, check out our post on The Platform blog or come to an upcoming drop-in session to speak to a project team member.

Provide input to help shape future transit-oriented development near Federal Way Downtown Station

We are partnering with the City of Federal Way to support transit-oriented development on land next to the future Federal Way Downtown Station. These sites offer an opportunity to fulfill the community’s vision for a vibrant city center with direct access to transit.

Your input will inform future development goals, including what types of housing are prioritized and what kinds of businesses, services, and public spaces we include. Learn more about the project and share your input online by June 3 at https://federalwaytod.com.

Check out our 2023 construction progress video!

Are you curious to see what we’ve been up to on the Federal Way Link Extension project? Check out this video to see a bird’s eye view of our progress and some at-a-glance numbers from last year. Some highlights include reaching 83% construction completion and 95% of bridge decks installed. Last year  we really started to see the stations and tracks come together, and  we’re looking forward to sharing more progress soon.
