Service restoration map now shows all lines running. The only segment "without" service (shown in gray) is the Waterfront Connection trains, one of which comes from the Raritan Valley Line and the other several from the North Jersey Coast Line and runs into Hoboken. Hoboken still has capacity issues and cannot host electric trains. The lack of PATH service in Hoboken is also reflected on the map.

Regarding Post #66 above, I saw several buses yesterday from Academy Bus providing with signs saying "Walkway Shuttle" running along Washington Blvd. This while HBLRT is also running nearby every 20 minutes and (finally) honoring PATH tickets as rail fare between Hoboken & Newport.

Review: NJ Transit rejected climate risk study before Sandy

State officials' confidence that its passenger rail fleet was sufficiently protected from extreme weather led an agency executive to dismiss looking into weatherproofing NJ Transit?s railcars against storms produced by more extreme climate patterns earlier this year. View the full article

Reader opinion in Bergen Record, 12/4/12:

Considering circumstances, NJ Transit performed well

PREPARING for an emergency takes time. When New Jersey residents were preparing for superstorm Sandy, people began shopping for generators, securing their homes and stockpiling food and water. Residents throughout the state made the best possible decisions they could, based on the forecasts and other information they had at the time.

Now imagine your home was the entire state of New Jersey. Better yet, imagine your home was NJ Transit, the nation’s only statewide transit agency, covering 5,325 square miles, with 16 rail yards, 17 bus depots and maintenance facilities, 11 rail lines and more than 160 rail stations.

NJ TRANSIT announces enhanced weekend HBLRT service between Hoboken and Exchange Place, which should help to fill the void of service at Hoboken and Exchange Place (the latter along with World Trade Center still closed on weekends) by connecting with PATH at Newport. Again I have to wonder why this was not offered during the entire month of November, even before the limited PATH service was restored.

Hudson Bergen Light Rail - Enhanced Weekend Service on December 8-9 and December 15-16, 2012

December 07, 2012

Due to continued PATH track repair work between Newark and 33rd Street, NJ TRANSIT will accommodate PATH customers via Hudson Bergen Light Rail (HBLR). During this time, customers may experience overcrowding and should allow for extra travel time.

Light rail customers should note that HBLR will operate on an enhanced weekend service between Hoboken and Exchange Place on the weekends of December 8-9 and December 15-16.

Enhanced schedule on HBLR will be as follows:

Before 8 a.m. – 20 minute frequency
8 a.m. to 9 p.m. – 10 minute frequency
9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. – 20 minute frequency

The story that seems to never end...From CBS New York, 12/10/12:

NJ TRANSIT Executive Defends Storing Trains In Low-Lying Areas Ahead Of Sandy

The New Jersey state Assembly held a committee hearing Monday on the damage sustained by NJ TRANSIT’s infrastructure during superstorm Sandy.

Here is the story.

This begs the question, if there was damage, what have they been running on all this time since the storm?

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail: Service Delays due to Track Repair Work between Marin Boulevard & Exchange Place - Sunday, December 16, 2012

December 12, 2012

On Sunday, December 16 between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Hudson Bergen Light Rail will perform necessary track repair work due to damage from Hurricane Sandy between Marin Boulevard and Exchange Place stations.

During this time, customers may experience delays of up to 15 minutes.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
