   North Plymouth train station scheduled to reopen in 2022    

 

 

It’s more than a year away, but local officials are excited about the restoration of rail service in Plymouth. The MBTA announced its intention to refund operation of the train station at North Plymouth in the next fiscal year. Service is expected to resume July 5, 2022, after it was closed this spring.

MBTA gets nearly $860M in federal coronavirus relief funds

 

BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is getting nearly $860 million in federal coronavirus relief funds to help maintain services and jobs as the pandemic drags on, federal transportation officials said Wednesday.

 

The funding for the Boston area public transit system is part of more than $30 billion for public transportation included in the American Rescue Plan Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden in March 11.

The T will use the ARP funds, along with previous relief funds, to balance its operating budgets into the beginning of the 2024 fiscal year, a T spokesperson said.

Working in partnership with A Better City, the T produced toolkits for new riders and people who have been away from public transportation during the pandemic.

MBTA GM Steve Poftak joined MBTA Transit Police Chief Kenneth Green, A Better City President and CEO Richard Dimino, and others at Back Bay Station for an event highlighting MBTA services and keeping people safe as commuters return to the office and students return to school. With more people returning to transit after Labor Day, the MBTA is encouraging the use of public transportation while reminding riders that face coverings are required.

 

With workers and students returning to the Boston area and traffic already at near pre-pandemic levels, the T announced today that it is extending its popular 5-day Flex Pass pilot program for Commuter Rail riders to March 15

Online train schedules for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) commuter rail, which is operated by Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), will now display ridership information for all trains.

   Almost all workers on the MBTA are vaccinated, but not on commuter rail or Amtrak    

 

 

 

While the conductors and operators of the MBTA’s buses and subways are required to be vaccinated, that’s not the case on the region's commuter trains.
