CSX Service Update

January 26, 2015

CSX remains relentless in its commitment to deliver the high level of service customers expect. To help ensure the company’s capacity meets customer needs, CSX continues to focus on four critical areas: people, assets, infrastructure, and processes. This update details the company’s plans to invest in its equipment, infrastructure, and technology to help enhance safety, service, and efficiency, and to facilitate growth.

The 2015 capital plan (PDF) new_window_icon.png illustrates the continuation of CSX’s long-term commitment to investing in customer growth.  CSX is not alone in this effort. Over the past decade, CSX customers have invested more than $30 billion in rail-served facilities, creating more than 36,000 jobs across the company’s 23-state network. In 2014 alone, CSX and its customers worked together to build or expand facilities on CSX’s network and short line partners, investing more than $3.5 billion across 107 projects. If you would like more information on how to connect with CSX, the CSX Select Site Program (www.csxselectsite.com) certifies properties expressly intended for rail service.  These properties meet rigorous permitting and certification criteria to facilitate the development process and promote efficient timelines for customers.

Recent Service Developments

Although the past two weeks continued to provide weather challenges across CSX’s operating territories, the network has remained largely fluid.  As temperatures hovered in the mid-20s in most northern states, snow accumulated across much of the company’s Northern Tier.  However, through the continued execution of its winter preparedness and response plans, CSX was able to avoid any major interruption to service over this period.  The company is preparing for additional winter weather this week, as Winter Storm Juno descends upon the Northeast.

As the map below illustrates, in addition to the capital investments CSX is making in its infrastructure, the company is also continuing to invest in the railroad through ongoing maintenance programs. While these programs can temporarily impact train performance along specific segments of the network, they are integral to safe, efficient, and reliable rail service to customers. The map also visually indicates locations where CSX has experienced line-of-road and terminal congestion over the past two weeks.
