Full story is only available by subscription.  Perhaps a Memphian who is a member of this  forum can give us some detail on this "another route."

I don't think we have any regular members who are Memphians.  But remember that the media uses the term "routes" interchangeably with "trips" and "trains". So it very well could be the same route, but additional frequencies.   My guess would be extension of the Illini/Saluki trains beyond Carbondale to Memphis.

 

And that is verified by this article in the Memphis, TN Flyer from August 14, 2014:

 

Amtrak Looks to Expand Memphis Service

 

Amtrak trains could run between Memphis and Chicago twice daily but not before the city and the state of Tennessee get on board with the plan.
