Wow!, 31,000 square feet!  That's a little less than 3/4 of an acre.   :)

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A proposed model railroad museum is moving into Phase 2 of planning with the approval of the Redevelopment Authority.

The estimated $8.5 million museum is the brainchild of museum visionary Thomas Krens and would entail some 31,000 square feet of space on the north side of Western Gateway Heritage State Park, which is overseen by the authority.

State rejects $5.4 million grant request for Extreme Model Railroad and Contemporary Architecture Museum

NORTH ADAMS — In a setback for the proposed Extreme Model Railroad and Contemporary Architecture Museum, the state has denied an application for a $5.4 million grant to help get the project rolling.

The joint application for a MassWorks grant was submitted in August by the museum and the city of North Adams.

Frank Gehry, Thomas Krens combine architecture with model trains in proposed museum

NORTH ADAMS - Picture the World Trade Center near the Empire State Building near Fenway Park near London's Tate Modern. Now picture trains zipping past the architectural icons.

Although the local transit provider, Berkshire Regional Transit Authority, has service to North Adams six days a week (no Sundays), there is no map on line to show if it would have a stop at the proposed museum.  Once the museum gets going, I would hope that policymakers would capitalize on the museum's renown and exploit that facility as a major trip generator.
