Yeah, finally it turned out that I am upstairs on 2901, 731 and 831. More specifically I am in either room 6 or 7 - depending..... No 30 for me since I am flying back on a big silver bird from O'Hare to Orlando. Chances look extremely good for comp upgrade on my carefully chosen flight. :)

Just made my PGH-CHI-MSP reservation on points redemption, and I'm downstairs on both segments, in 2900-14 and 0730-12.  I guess somebody before me really wanted to be upstairs!  No worries, I am happy to be on the same train and same section of the train as everyone else (so far).

So Steve ended up in the Portland section on both trains.  Don't know if that is an indication of waning availability, or if at the time that section was cheaper.

27 and 28 were cheaper.

In watching them, they tend to alternate, fluctuating between the Seattle and Portland sections being cheaper.

In general the prices are going up. I'll have a long walk to the diner.

We will be coordinating via text message for our dinner reservations. If the Lsa goes to the Seattle section first, then you guys got it. If the Lsa goes to the Portland section I'll get it.

Yeah. It is good to have an agent at each end of the train :)

Today, I have created the spreadsheets for this Fest, to show everyone's Amtrak accommodations.  If you posted this information here before it was of your own will.  Please at this time if you have made your reservations, e-mail me with this information with something in the subject title including MWRF and Amtrak.

We only have three "long distance" trips on this journey, although only one Amtrak trip as part of the Fest will be overnight unless the Empire Builder segments are very late.  So of most interest are the reservations for:

  • Westbound Capitol Limited - Train 29(16) PGH-CHI
  • Westbound Empire Builder - Trains 7/27(17) CHI-MSP
  • Eastbound Empire Builder - Trains 8/28(17) MSP-CHI leaving MSP on Sunday, 7/19 *

In addition, I may do some more for the trains participants take to the start point or from the finish point of the Fest.

*  Keep in mind while it may be confusing, that we are going west on the Empire Builder that leaves Chicago on Friday, July 17th, and we will be going east on the Empire Builder leaving St. Paul on Sunday, July 19th - - however this train left Portland and Seattle on the 17th so it's 8/28(17) but your ticket should read departure on the 19th.

No hotel information needed here; I will request this at a later time.

I'm going to start tracking the on-time performance of the Amtrak trains associated with the MWRF.  The trains I plan to track are:

  • The westbound Pennsylvanian (#42) at NYP, PHL, HAR and PGH
  • The westbound Capitol Limited (#29) at WAS, CUM, PGH, TOL, CHI
  • The westbound Empire Builder (#7/27) at CHI, MKE, MSP
  • The eastbound Empire Builder (#8/28) at SEA, PDX, MOT, MSP, CHI

I'll pick-up data starting with the March 1 departures.  I'll upload charts monthly.  If anyone has suggested additions to this list, post them below or send me a note.
