Because of heavy rain this morning and resulting water conditions, several subway lines are experiencing unavoidable disruptions in normal service.

D service suspended 34th Street to Dekalb Avenue.

E service suspended Lexington Avenue to 23 Street Ely

South-bound  Q, N, R   service via the Mahatan bridge.

Alan,

Take care and take trains!

The E and N Q R disruptions indicate flooded East River tunnels, namely respectively the 53rd Street and Montague Street Tunnels. Had this been a weekday, it would have also had an effect on V and M service, and possibly the W, if the water in the Montague Tunnel backed up into the Whitehall Street station near South Ferry.

I don't understand, though what happened with the D train, since that route travels over the Manhattan Bridge, and why the B is not also affected since they share the same tracks until they diverge around Dekalb just before the Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Street complex station in Brooklyn.

Just checked the MTA's website; there are no service alerts posted at this time. I had to wait a while for the F to show up at Herald Square tonight. At 14th Street, there was a handwritten sign taped to the station booth saying "No F service due to flooding". When the lady in the booth saw us all come up from the platform, she took down the sign and told a passenger that this was the third time she had taken the sign down today.

why the B is not also affected

The B doesn't run on the weekend.
