Ground broken for Amtrak station

Work on Rochester's long-awaited new Amtrak station began Tuesday, at least ceremoniously, when Rep. Louise Slaughter led a brigade of shovel-wielding pols at a soft groundbreaking.

Slaughter: Good riddance to Amtrak station

Four decades after it was built, Rochester’s train station finally lived up to its status as temporary.

“Three, two, one, tear this antique down,” Rep. Louise Slaughter called out through a bullhorn before the claw of an excavator swiped at the corner of the metal awning of the Amtrak station on Central Avenue.

As the facing crumpled like a cheap can and pieces clattered to the concrete Friday afternoon, Slaughter said, “I always knew this was made of tin.”

New York DOT makes way for new Amtrak station in Rochester

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) earlier this month began demolition of an Amtrak station in Rochester to make way for a new one.

Crews started tearing down the old station following the completion of a temporary building to house Amtrak services, NYSDOT officials said in a press release.

All aboard for the new Rochester train station

It was only supposed to be a temporary solution. Thirty-seven years after the Rochester train station was built, construction is now near completion for a new hub for Amtrak and CSX and an enhanced traveling experience for passengers.

Rochester's new Amtrak station is nice - but pricey

If you ordered a new LCD screen and when it showed up you got a bill that was 50 percent higher than you'd expected, how would you react?

How about if you really, really liked the TV?
