Metra news release:

Two arrested for burglary at Wrightwood Station
(October 26, 2016) - Metra Police arrested two men Tuesday as they were breaking into vehicles parked at the Wrightwood Station on Chicago’s south side.

Late Tuesday morning, Metra Police observed two individuals burglarizing a vehicle parked in the commuter lot at the Wrightwood Station at 79th and Kedzie and apprehended both men. Arrested were Edgar Pena, 29, of the 3800 block of South Sawyer Avenue in Chicago and Alberto Camargo, 19, of the 4700 block of South Karlov Avenue in Chicago.

At the time of their arrest, Pena and Camargo were found to be in possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen from the 4600 block of West 59th Street. Following further investigation, Metra Police recovered a second stolen vehicle from the 4700 block of South Karlov Avenue.

Pena has been charged with one count of burglary to a motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and Camargo was charged with one count of burglary to a motor vehicle, and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, both Class 2 felonies. The case remains under investigation with additional criminal charges pending against the two men for previous thefts in Metra parking lots, according to Metra Police.

“I’m happy to report a positive outcome in this case,” said Metra Chief of Police Joseph Perez. “We will continue our surveillance of the parking lots and to vigorously investigate all incidents reported to us. However, we can’t emphasize strongly enough how important it is for people in the area to help us and each other by reporting suspicious activity when they see it.”

Metra Police had increased patrols of the area around the Wrightwood and Ashburn stations following reports of criminal activity in the area, including vehicle break-ins. In January of this year, two juveniles were arrested while burglarizing vehicles at the Ashburn Station.

Metra also reminds all its customers to be aware of their surroundings, lock their vehicles, secure any valuables and report any and all suspicious or criminal activity on Metra property to Metra Police at 312-322-2800. If you see something, say something!
