Eight of us are on the Empire Builder, in 2 different cars.  We ate dinner at 2 tables for 4, and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals as we are rolling west towards Seattle.

We are in Washington State rolling towards Seattle.  All 8 of us are still on speaking terms.  :)  First call for breakfast was at 5:30 am and 7 of the 8 of us showed up to be first in the diner.  One of us decided to sleep in a bit.  I felt sorry for the older woman who was "stuck" sitting with 3 of us during what she probably hoped would be a quiet breakfast.

Excellent trip! Padding brought us into Seattle at 9:52 AM, 33 minutes EARLY. Forget being up to 1-1/2 hours late en route, we did just fine. Crew in sleeper and dining car were superb. They set the bar high for our upcoming long distance trips on this journey.

The was maybe my best Amtrak long distance trip, ever. My room was fine everything worked.  Rattles and bangs were at a minimum and the temperature was just right.  The service crew was first rate.  Meals were also good, with the first night crab cakes very tasty, and the second night "Amtrak Signature Steak" cooked as ordered (medium) and absolutely great. That was, believe it or not, my first ever Amtrak steak. An historic occasion.

It was interesting passing through western North Dakota and eastern Montana, an area I have come to know very well with our daughter now living there.  The crossing of Marias Pass was spectacular, accentuated by being just a little late and the sun being lower and the coloring and shadows at their best.  All in all, a great ride.
