Use this thread to report on our travels about the southbound Coast Starlight leaving Portland on Friday, July 14th and arriving in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 15th.

Our southbound Coast Starlight got stuck with whatever was delaying us the previous day on the Cascades.  However it left Portland at 2:36 PM, just 11 minutes late.  However we took more delays for a meet with 14 and a freight south of Portland, and then around Chemult there was a freight train that was undergoing inspection, and furthermore we spent way more time in Klamath Falls than we really needed to as freights passed us in both directions.  We left Klamath Falls 11:45 PM, one hour 45 minutes late.   But along the way, the crossing of the Cascades was spectacular, and it was enjoyed from the Pacific Parlor Car.

Come morning, we got our leg stretching done in Sacramento after breakfast.  Left Sacramento 7:53 AM Saturday morning, which put us an hour 18 minutes down.  The Capital Corridor over which we are now riding is fast, so hopefully we can make up some more time.

Well currently we are past Santa Barbara and it appears that with all the meat in the schedule we are going to make Los Angeles on time or better yet early.

And despite the delays in Oregon, we made it to Los Angeles at 8:39 PM, 21 minutes early.  Overall, we had another good crew. Perhaps not as top notch as we had on the Empire Builder, but they were excellent.   Rita our server in the dining car for most of the meals we ate in there was perfect.  We all also got at least one meal in the Pacific Parlor Car (attendant Jose) which provided us with some variety. I was happy with my pasta dish.  As for the sleeping car attendants, I know that Mike Hammond and I in the 1132 car had an excellent attendant in Lorna, who was extremely helpful and always there for us.  I will leave it up to others to describe their respective experiences with their attendants in the other sleepers.

I was in the 1130 car, but spent a lot of time in the Pacific Parlor Car.  I think my attendant was fine, even though I did not need much from him other than putting down the bed.  I will note that there were bath towels in my room, which I expected (but now realize does not always happen).
