Norfolk Southern is monitoring Tropical Storm Delta, which is currently expected to impact the Gulf Coast late this week.

The New Orleans Flood Protection Authority plans to start closing the floodgates in and around New Orleans, Wednesday, Oct. 7. Shipments destined to or traveling through New Orleans will be impacted. At this time, we do not know the duration of the impact.

Precautionary actions are being taken to protect infrastructure and rail equipment is being repositioned away from low-lying areas around New Orleans. NS is working with customers located in the forecasted region to identify switching needs and with interchange partners to move certain shipments over alternate interchange gateways. Ongoing updates will be provided as this storm system progresses.

Customers with critical shipments should contact NS Customer Service at customerservice@nscorp.com.

The latest ETA and routing information are always available through AccessNS.

Thank you for your business.

Norfolk Southern continues to monitor Hurricane Delta, which is currently expected to make landfall and impact the Gulf Coast Friday, Oct. 9.

The New Orleans Flood Protection Authority did not close the floodgates in and around New Orleans today, Oct. 8, as projected landfall shifted further west.

  • Interline movements: Interchanges in New Orleans remain open at this time. Shipments traveling through New Orleans could still be impacted as the storm comes ashore west of New Orleans.
  • Local traffic: Precautionary actions were taken to protect infrastructure, and rail equipment was repositioned away from low-lying areas around New Orleans. NS is working with customers located in the forecasted region to identify switching needs and starting to return local NS traffic to the area. Shipments destined to New Orleans will be impacted for approximately 48 hours.

Ongoing updates will be provided as this storm system progresses.

Customers with critical shipments should contact NS Customer Service at customerservice@nscorp.com.

The latest ETA and routing information are always available through AccessNS.
