Saturday activities include the LIRR to Port Washington and back to Flushing, the (7) train from Flushing to Hudson Yards and back to Times Square, the trips to & from Coney Island, Lunch in Coney Island, our Amtrak trips on the Ethan Allen and Adirondack, and dinner in Poughkeepsie.   Hopefully that provides a lot to recount here.

After meeting up with the group at flushing main street we then rode a few subway lines then went to coney island new york for lunch. I ordered the chicken tenders but they kinda had a fishy taste a little bit. Need to change the frying oil more often. After lunch it was more subways after which we walked to Penn station. Left to catch a NJT train back to my hotel to check in. I ended up getting on the wrong train whiched turned out to be a express and didn't stop in linden so got off at Secaucus junction and caught the next train. Walked to the hotel from the linden station and checked in. WiFi works. Looking foward to Sundays events.

This was another great day planned by Kevin Korell. I covered new trackage going to port washington and riding the 7 from flushing Main Street. The 7 has been viewed from many vantage points over the year and has been on my personal to do list. It was great to see the view from the 7.

The walk to Coney Island Boardwalk was a highlight and we got a group picture. The ride to and from Coney Island was not new trackage, but the service disruptions caused us to ride different combinations of routes.

The ride up to Poughkeepsie was a highlight with window seats on left side for view of Hudson River. The restaurant was perfectly located and the station was great for train watching while we waited for a late Adirondack.

Mike and I rode the 3 to chamber street and a1 to rector for an efficient trip back to the hotel.

The day was captured well by the others above, so you have it in a nutshell.   A total of 23 people were involved today, some coming and going as we progressed.  We peaked at 20 for the last part of the day, the Amtrak round trip and dinner in Poughkeepsie.

Thanks to all who came out to ride trains today.  The weather was comfortable for January, and the only rain was experienced in the early morning before the group met for the day at Penn Station.

One more long day to go, plus a Stamford points run anyone is welcome to join on Monday morning.

Thanks, Kevin, for putting together a great fest.  It was wonderful to re-connect with some stalwarts and meet some new folks as well.

On 1-15 (Friday), I arrived at Penn Station on The Pennsylvanian (# 42) pretty much on time so I had plenty of leeway to buy a New Jersey Transit roundtrip ticket for the Raritan Valley Line excursion.  Once I joined the group, all of us schlepped down the stairs to platform—not user friendly like the ramps at Grand Central.

Upon return to Penn Station, I scarfed down two slices of mediocre pizza and then headed out into a light drizzle.  I had to skirt a line of placard-carrying individuals who were protesting bull-riding at a rodeo in play at Madison Square garden.  I crossed Seventh Avenue to enter Hotel Pennsylvania where there was a long line waiting to check in.  Dave Korkhouse and Don Sillence were ahead of me.  My room was OK despite leaky faucets and a broken towel rack, pieces of which were on the bathroom floor.  I was going to have breakfast in the dining room, but the hostess was indifferent so I checked out and got some Starbucks coffee in Penn Station. I've crossed this place off my list.

I rode out with the group to Port Washington on 1-16, and on the return exited the train at Great Neck where I had a luncheon engagement.

Going home, I took Keystone # 667 to Philadelphia.  At 30th St., I had a fish sandwich and fries at Wendy's.  I then boarded Keystone # 669 for the trip to Harrisburg.  A family group occupied the same car and did a lot of cackling as far as Lancaster.  Some folks boarded at Lancaster for a ride to Harrisburg.  It good to see Amtrak capturing some of that "transit" business as there is no Harrisburg—Lancaster bus service.

Although Pennsylvania has poured over $150 million for track upgrading on the Keystone Corridor, Amfleet I cars ride rough.  That's not pleasant for this writer who loves to do crossword puzzles.

Steve M. and I stayed down in the Financial District. We walked over to the Wall St. station for a no-transfer ride on the 2/3 express train to 34th/Penn Station to meet up with the group for the Port Washington ride. This was new miles for me, and enjoyed the neighborhood like feel out there. I often forget about it whenever I'm in NYC. On the 7 line, I also enjoy the "el" lines of the area to see everything from above. Getting to see a brand new station at 34th/Hudson yards was also a highlight. A station without the grime, dirt, and dust is a rare sight in NYC. Coney Island and Poughkeepsie were fun too. I was glad to get to sleep after a long day.
