VRE Train Talk Alert, 11:56 am 3/13:

Winter Storm Warning for VRE Service Area

 weather_original.jpg

As you may be aware, there is a Winter Storm Warning for our service area starting tonight until tomorrow afternoon. Please know that we are monitoring the weather now and overnight with our host railroads, the National Weather Service and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to help determine if conditions will allow for the safe operation of our trains.

In the event that we do need to cancel service, or operate on a modified schedule, we will get that information out as early as possible usually no later than 4:00 a.m. of the affected service day. All information will be posted to our website at www.vre.org, on our Twitter and Facebook accounts, through Train Talk text and email alerts, on our station signs and our information hotline, 1-800-RIDE-VRE. VRE also contacts local media including TV, radio and traffic reporters.

If you are interested in how we make this decision, please take a look at our blog post on the subject. Please remember, we take your safety seriously, and you should, too.

VRE Train Talk Alert, 2:18 pm 3/13:

Update: VRE Plans "S" Schedule for Tuesday, March 14 | Public Hearings Rescheduled for March 21

weather_original.jpg

As an update to our previous Train Talk, VRE now plans to operate an "S" schedule tomorrow, March 13. Only trains with an "S" noted with the train number on the schedule will operate.

We are still monitoring the weather with various stakeholders and if conditions continue to deteriorate, we still may cancel service altogether. Again, this decision will be made no later than 4:00 am tomorrow morning and will notify riders through our various avenues of communication.

Amtrak has also informed us, as of this update, the VRE-Amtrak Cross Honor trains are still operating and will accept Step-Up Tickets from VRE riders in conjunction with a multi-day VRE ticket, as long as the Amtrak train has availability. They do warn that southbound trains may be affected (severely delayed or canceled) depending on how much an impact the storm has since the trains are coming from the northeastern part of the US.

Lastly, we also rescheduled the two public hearings on the fare increase that were to take place tomorrow to a week later, March 21.

Tuesday, March 21, 2017
VRE Offices, 1500 King Street, Suite 202, Alexandria, VA 22314
12:00 P.M.

Tuesday, March 21, 2017
P.R.T.C. Board Room, 2nd Floor, 14700 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192
7:00 P.M.

The other public hearings times remain the same.
