I just checked the fares from PVD to Wickford Junction and it is either $5.50 or $6 alone, combined with the Amtrak fare will be $16-$17. The straight MBTA fare is $10, or if you have the discount card (some may have one as you have to get it in person at BBY) is 5!

I looked at Providence-Wickford Junction and came up with $3.75 . The Amtrak trip from Boston to Providence is currently going for $11, which can be reduced to $9.90 with an AAA or NARP 10% discount. Total would therefore be $13.70 . MBTA fare straight through from Boston to Wickford Junction shows as $11. So to me the difference is only $2.70. And it would be $11 back too, since the only Amtrak option would involve too long a wait in PVD. And while there may be a discount on MBTA with the Charlie Card, for out of towners who don't have one they would have to buy it first which figures into the total cost. My point again is, do what is comfortable for you. There is no law that everybody has to travel together.

I hope you're right Kevin. As I said, I've never taken it as RIPTA (city bus) from a block from my house 30 miles to downtown PVD costs me $1! ;)

I'll post a fare analysis (as I've done for other Fests) soon in this thread, based on plans for Friday and Saturday, and potentially whatever we end up doing Sunday.

Just so I understand the MBTA fair map since its changed since 2009. I can use a 3 interzone ticket from PVD to wickford jct for $3.25 and a 4 interzone ticket from lowell to anderson for $3.50 but from wickford jct to boston south need a regular 10 zone ticket for $11 and from boston north to lowell need a regular 6 zone ticket at $8.75.

It's supposed to be five interzone fare for Anderson to Woburn, or $4

I am working on a guide to the fares. Is there anyone considering the all-MBTA route to Wickford Junction, or are we all taking Amtrak 137 from Boston to Providence? If the latter is true, I can eliminate that option on the itinerary as well.

And so I can complete this guide, final decision time is near on the Sunday activities. If anyone has a preference for any of the options presented, please post them in this thread.

The Costs Page is now available. My apologies for not putting it up sooner, but I had other matters to attend to including earning some extra money to put towards said costs. Two weeks from day of this post until the first official day of Fest activities.
