Hurricane Ida Impacting Operations

Posted Date: August 30, 2021

To Our Customers,

Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane along the Louisiana border yesterday afternoon.

As we continue assessing the impact to our network, the following is a summary of the current conditions:

  • We’ve established Command Centers to coordinate resource needs.
  • This morning our engineering crews began track inspections to assess storm damage. We have already staged ballast trains to assist with potential washouts.
  • Fallen trees, downed power lines and other storm damage have led to numerous road closures limiting travel to affected areas. Additional contract drivers are available to supplement transportation needs.
  • Multiple locations are currently experiencing power outages due to a loss of commercial power. We are working closely with local power companies and contractors in the impacted areas to restore service.
  • The New Orleans floodgates remain closed with no interchange to the eastern carriers; we continue to review reroute options.

Hurricane Ida - Update on Operations

Posted Date: August 31, 2021

To Our Customers,

Our thoughts are with our many team members that have been personally impacted by the storm. We are supporting local communities with recovery efforts by providing food, water and temporary lodging for crews and their families displaced by the storm.

We continue to assess the impact of Hurricane Ida to our network, following is a summary of current conditions:

  • Most of our network in Louisiana has returned to service, our route from St. James to New Orleans remains closed at this time. We continue to clear debris from our tracks and install generators along our railroad where commercial power has yet to return. We anticipate this route will be open by late tomorrow morning.
  • We expect the New Orleans interchange route with the Norfolk Southern to open tomorrow. Interchanges with other eastern carriers over New Orleans are now under an embargo, we are working closely with those carriers on reroute options. Embargoes are also in place for stations and customers affected by the storm. Please refer to our embargoes page for the most current information on interchange status and stations able to receive local rail service.
  • Customers in the affected area with facilities or tracks out of service should open a case in Case Management. Please refer to the detailed instructions on our Hurricane Planning and Recovery page so we are aware of these outages.

We will continue to provide updates as more information is made available regarding our network status and the New Orleans interchange.
