I wonder what was so special about this weekend's activities that Amtrak suddenly felt the need to keep the public informed. This has been going on almost every weekend. I've been watching it because I have wanted to take a trip to Hartford over a weekend but not deal with the substitute buses. Almost every Saturday (and by extension some trips on Friday night and Sunday) they go through the same dance.... but Amtrak hasn't said a word other than on their reservations page marking the Shuttle and Springfield through Regionals as cancelled with substitute buses in their place.

Another update for July, which came in the last week of July (effective date is July 27th!).  The "until July 29th" has now been extended to the end of September.  What I don't see are any  Saturday cancellations, which is a good thing.

Hartford, CT Courant, 8/15/16:

Amtrak Will Keep Buses Rolling On Springfield Route

Passengers planning to take an Amtrak train on the Springfield to New Haven line stand a good chance of riding a bus instead, at least for the next month and a half.

Amtrak recently announced that extensive track construction along the route will continue through the end of September.

It turns out that despite the stale announcements on the Amtrak website that end with July (current announcement only mentions weekday trains, not Saturday trains), they are still in August bustituting the Springfield shuttles and the Springfield through Northeast Regionals on Saturdays. It appears too that the Vermonter consists were turned yesterday at Springfield and New Haven. So nothing at all is running on Saturdays between Springfield and New Haven, and with operational requirements that includes Trains 136 & 148 on Friday evenings, and Trains 143 & 157 on Sundays.

The "through September" has apparently extended into October, even though they don't formally tell you so. The same 6 weekday Shuttle trains were still being bustituted the first full week of October until Friday the 7th. However I am noticing that the Saturday disruptions may be done for now, as it is possible to book a trip along that corridor on Saturday 10/8 (could not be done on previous Saturday 10/1). I can make a reservation for next Saturday the 15th as well. However, the 6 affected weekday shuttles will still be bustituted through the weekdays this coming week (October 10-14).
