“The Passenger Stations of Carlisle” will be the topic of an illustrated talk by railroad and fire department historian Randy Watts to Harrisburg Chapter National Railway Historical Society on December 13 at Hoss’s Restaurant, 743 Wertzville Rd., Enola, PA.  Business meeting and speaker begin at 7 pm, with a meal available as early as 5 pm. The dinner and meeting are open to the public.

Watts’ program will describe Carlisle’s stations on West and East High Streets as well as Gettysburg Junction. He will also recount the last passenger train in the borough and the current status of railroad operations there.

A resident of Boiling Springs, PA, Watts has penned a number of history books including a five-volume set titled Railroads of the Cumberland Valley as well as The Fire Houses of Carlisle 1789-2013. His latest work is The Railroads of Lemoyne.

He is the grandson of the late Ralph Watts who operated Harris Tower interlocking in Harrisburg, PA for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  Harris Tower, at 637 Walnut St., Harrisburg, PA, is now an interactive museum.

Harrisburg Chapter, one of over 135 chapters of the National Railway Historical Society, is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to studying railroad history and preserving significant local railroad artifacts. Major projects include: maintaining Pennsylvania’s official electric locomotive (GG-1 # 4859) as well as Pennsylvania Railroad wood-sided N6B caboose and preserving and operating Harris Tower.
