Lightning slammed through a train car in Walworth County Saturday night, volunteers with the East Troy Railway Museum said.

A damaging surge of electricity also fried equipment plugged into the museum's wiring, museum president Ryan Jonas said.

East Troy train catches fire during birthday party, grandfather says

 

A 3-year-old boy's birthday party went awry after a train on the East Troy Electric Railroad caught fire on Saturday, the boy's grandfather said.

 

"It was a very traumatic experience, like a bomb went off inside the train," said Rick Schim of Kenosha, who was on the train at the time.

 

The fire occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday, about a half mile from the train station in the Town of East Troy, according to Schim.
