Union head defends Metro-North conductor accused of assaulting MTA officer
A Metro-North Railroad conductor accused of assaulting a Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officer at Grand Central Terminal last week was contending with a “belligerent” customer with a history of drunken behavior when a confrontation with officers escalated, the head of the commuter rail’s largest union said Thursday.
James Fahey, executive director of the Association of Commuter Rail Employees, said conductor Thomas Moran was following railroad protocol early Friday when he refused the unidentified customer’s request to get off at 125th Street in Harlem.
