Our main line between Fresno and Bakersfield, California is currently out of service due to a service interruption. Customers with rail shipments moving through this corridor can anticipate delays of approximately 24 hours as crews work to restore service. Customers can expect service to resume within this time frame unless provided further notice.

State official: Train derailed in Tulare County from 'extreme heat buckling the track'

 

 

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Tuesday's cargo train derailment at the southern tip of Tulare County was caused by "extreme heat buckling the track," according to a state official.

 

Union Pacific reported 19 cars derailed along Highway 99 between Delano and Earlimart. No one was hurt.

Heat warped track being blamed for train derailment near Earlimart

 

 

Sizzling Valley heat is being blamed for Tuesday's train derailment involving a Union Pacific train near the southeast Tulare County community of Earlimart. A company spokesman says triple digit heat can warp and expand the tracks.

 

.  .  .   Union Pacific crews are dealing with triple digit heat to replace the section of track buckled by the heat. No injuries were reported in Tuesday's accident that saw 19 cars leave the track.
