Second and final day of our winter RailFest is over.   Everything worked out very well for us.  Weather was about 10 degrees warmer and much dryer than the previous day.

The morning streecar run there were 12 of us on the eastbound trip from Union Station.  Two more who had slept longer than expected joined us for the westbound run making us 14.

Our Cardinal trip featured two trains that were both on schedule despite previous worries to the contrary.   Eleven people participated in this 7 hour round trip journey.   On westbound #51, we had 6 people in Business Class, and 5 in Coach.    In Charlottesville the group split up, with several going to a beer place, and some of us walking around town while others remained close to the station.

For our return eastbound on #50, none of us was able to reserve Business Class from the time I announced the Fest right until this morning, so the assumption was that the class sold out.   Originally most of us just went for Coach.  4 people however shared two sleepers in daytime mode while the other 7 remained in Coach.  The coach attendant had blocked off a group of seats for a large number of people travelling together, not knowing we were coming as a group, so the 7 of us got to sit in the same vicinity.  However those in sleeper (who also took advantage of the early dinner call around Manassas) reported that the Business Class car was empty!  Something wasn't done right with the inventory.

Three from our group remained on #50 in Washington to go to points north, and the rest got off in Washington and went home, caught other trains, or to respective hotels for 1 more night.

Yeah I can confirm the biz card stayed empty to WAS.

Then from WAS to at least TRE there were 4 dead heading Amtrak Employees sitting in the BC car enjoying their good luck. The conductor couldn't rationalize why BC was empty and there was no seats for sale.

Right, at least two Conductor/Assistant Conductors (who had set up individual shops occupying several tables in the BC car) that I talked to were equally puzzled. They had no idea what was going on. For some reason that no one seems to be able to fathom, it would appear that all sales for that car was blocked. So for all practical purposes the train was towing one car dead weight serving no practical purpose, except perhaps repositioning the car for something.
