From Rail Passenger Association of California (RailPAC), newsletter for April 2006:

Metrolink is considering beefing up weekend service on its Inland Empire-Orange County line by extending the "Beach Train" to run five round trips year round on weekends. There would be three round trips on Saturdays and two on Sundays, between Riverside and Oceanside. If this happens, it will start in either May or July.

In addition, Metrolink may also start weekend service on its Orange County Line between Oceanside and Los Angeles Union Station, funded by OCTA.

Metrolink has embarked on an ambitious grade crossing safety plan. This will include four-quadrant gates, longer gate arms, median separators, special pedestrian crossings, locked gates, fencing, and other things. In essence, a "sealed corridor" will be created, which will increase the safety of train crews, passengers, motorists, and pedestrians.

Here is an answer, somewhat, to a question I have been asking lately. What color will designate the new Exposition Line? The Los Angeles County MTA appears to like the Aqua Line, since it would be no more than a two-syllable word and it works well in English and Spanish. But there are some who want the color Cardinal, since the line goes by USC. Somebody even suggested making the line half Aqua and half Cardinal. The MTA Board also may redesignate the shorter branch of the Red Line, which may someday extend to Santa Monica, as the Purple Line.

Amtrak's Capitol Corridor carried its 10 millionth passenger on March 23rd. The 10 millionth passenger was Kirk Swenson of Davis, who travels regularly to Emeryville.
