Transit Fans Fawn Ovr Commuter Rail, But Study Says It Doesn't Fit For Nashville

Nashville’s transit officials hear the clamoring for more commuter rail service, which is usually fast and can carry a lot of people. But in Middle Tennessee, that would probably require squeezing passenger trains onto busy CSX freight lines — and those prospects are slim, according to a new study.

Capacity is a bogus argument.  Commuter and freight traffic can coexist with proper signaling, reduced grade crossings, and longer passing sidings.  Tennessee planners have to think outside the box.     Sloan

When I rode Music City Star over the summer, the ridership was greater on the Friday evening-only inbound trip than it was on the outbound regular weekday commuter trip.  That thinking outside the box should lend itself to more leisure travel during midday and weekend hours.

And yes, they can use more routes emanating in different directions from Nashville as originally conceived (not only the East Corridor to Lebanon) as Nashville does suffer from traffic problems particularly at the convergences of the three Interstate freeways that serve the city.
