I'm not sure why some lost their gender, but my profile did not lose it.

And since we won't be using that countdown code going forward, I've turned it off.  This should mean that no one needs to enter it as they make changes to their profile for any reason.

We are still working through some glitches on this board exposed by the software update.  Please pardon the construction dust as we try to rectify the issues we are experiencing.

There should be a decision and announcement on our Sunday Chat within the next couple of days.

Regarding the link/URL issue, with the new software the correct method for more or less automatically inserting a link (as opposed to typing it the way I mentioned earlier), is to first type your text that you want to represent the link, highlight it, click the URL insert tool, and then paste your link.

When you do that, you end up with this.  Link is to the OTOL static site.

Thanks to Alan and Kevin for making this upgrade happen!

One tip for those not familiar with the latest IP Board is the wysiwyg/text toggle. When you're entering a post, there's a "Toggle Switch" icon in the upper left corner of the box. That toggles between the wysiwyg and plain text modes of input.  In wysiwyg mode, the various formatting buttons are active and allow you to insert links, quotes, change fonts, colors and the other stuff. The BB Codes are entered behind the scenes, but are not shown in the active text box.  If you toggle to Text mode, the codes are now visible, just like the old software, but the boxes to enter new codes are inactive. In text mode, you have to manually enter new BB Codes.  The result of this is that you sometimes have to jump back and forth between wysiwyg and text to get things just right.  This is particularly true when quoting text from a prior post.  The wysiwyg mode can badly mess that up with your new text ending up inside the quote from the prior post. Text mode can clear that up.

It might take a little getting used to, but it works fine and is pretty easy once you do. I sort of wish IP would have made a third "Classic BB" mode that was just like the old system, but you work with the tools provided.

Thanks again for the upgrade.

I also found that the new board indicated I had not read anything!  I spent a few minutes going in to each Forum and Sub-Forum clicking "Mark this forum as read."  I expect I will be able to quickly identify new posts.   Ross

Ross, I think this was a one-time thing with the new software.  I too had to mark each forum as "read" the first day, but at least you can luckily to do it by forum, and therefore it's not necessary to visit each thread.  But I haven't had to do so since I initially marked things as "read", so I think we're good here.

Yes, that was a one time thing caused by the upgrade.  The change in the database structure was so great that it couldn't maintain that history.

And for anyone who still needs to mark everything read for the first time, if you scroll down to the very bottom of the forum, there is a link on the left side that says "Mark Community Read" which will mark every forum read for you all at once.  Or you can go forum by forum as mentioned by Kevin if you prefer.

All,

You may have noticed that one of the minor glitches we still have with the board is the Quotes are not behaving properly for anything posted before last week's update.  This apparently can be repaired by the techs (as opposed to me going through over 100,000 posts and fixing them manually). There is a possibility they might need to take the board down for a short while to accomplish this, so please do not be alarmed if you cannot get on -- just try again later.

The above issue with the legacy quotes not working right appears to have been fixed.  I have done spot checks in various forums from before the update and it appears that the [quote] tags are now working as intended.   If anyone does come across anything that looks strange, please let us know.
