   Atlanta BeltLine Light Rail Transit Moving Forward  

 

 

 

Atlanta BeltLine, INC. (ABI) is moving forward with plans to add light rail transit to the 22-mile looped trail. The Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) on Monday, October 12, will start surveying the BeltLine “to begin engineering and to ultimately construct rail transit,” according to an announcement this week from ABI. MARTA will be collecting land survey information starting with the BeltLine Eastside Corridor (next to the Eastside Trail).

     MARTA board authorizes contract for Beltline transit study  

 

 

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Board of Directors took a major step toward bringing transit to the Atlanta BeltLine recently with the authorization of a contract for a comprehensive engineering analysis for light rail around the BeltLine that connects into the current MARTA heavy rail stations, according to a press release.

Is MARTA’s second look at Beltline project a sign the agency might back away?

 

 

MARTA says there are gaps in a proposed 22-mile light-rail transit route on the Atlanta Beltline, but some are worried the agency will end up leaving a big hole in transit for the city.

 

MARTA’s board of directors awarded a $500,000 contract to Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. to study the 22-mile transit loop. The agency also plans on extending the Atlanta Streetcar from Jackson Avenue to the Beltline at Irwin Street and up to Ponce City Market.

    MARTA wants your input on Atlanta Streetcar extension  

 

 

The agency plans to extend the streetcar east from Jackson Avenue along Edgewood Avenue. It would meet the Atlanta Beltline at Irwin Street, then up to Ponce City Market. It’s the first extension of the streetcar and part of MARTA’s larger plan for a light-rail network in Atlanta.
