BIG CROWDS FOR SYDNEY MONORAIL'S FINAL RUN

Described by the NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian as a "fad" and a "white elephant," the monorail will at 9.30pm (AEST) Sunday depart on its final loop between Darling Harbour, Chinatown and the city's centre.

End of an era as famous George St monorail crossing is cut up and trucked away for scrap

THE most famous stretch of Sydney's once-iconic monorail is no more.

Early this morning, and not without drama, workers dismantled the piece of elevated track that ran down Liverpool Street, across George Street, and past some of the city's most popular landmarks - before it was trucked to a holding yard in St Peters to be sold for scrap.
