KTXS-TV, Sweetwater, TX 6/24/17:

Train derailed by strong winds in Mitchell County

 

LORAINE, Texas - A train was derailed Friday evening in Mitchell County.

 

Railroad police told KTXS it appears weather caused the Union Pacific train to derail three miles west of Loraine.

Several rail cars went off the tracks, which run parallel to I-20. Some of the rail cars landed in Champion Creek.

Service Outage in West Texas

To Our Customers,

 

Our main line between Sierra Blanca, Texas (just East of El Paso) and Fort Worth, Texas is currently out of service due to a derailment near Loraine, Texas. We are routing traffic around the impacted area and customers with rail shipments moving through this corridor can anticipate delays of approximately 36 to 48 hours as crews work to restore service.
