Power System Failure Downtown Prompts Unscheduled Rail Service Interruption

Shuttle Buses to be Provided Along Sections of Red, Green and Purple Rail Lines as Crews Work to Restore Power

A power system failure along the METRORail Red Line has resulted in an unscheduled service interruption beginning at the start of service Friday, Sept. 22.  The service interruption also impacts portions of the Green and Purple Lines downtown.

Bus shuttles will be provided for passengers along the Red Line between Burnett Transit Center and the Downtown Transit Center.  Along the Green and Purple Lines, bus shuttles will be provided between EaDo/Stadium and Theatre Stations.

The power system failure was discovered Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5:45 p.m.  Bus shuttles were put in place along portions of all three lines to transport customers.  Crews immediately began working to resolve the issue.

Riders are asked to monitor METRO Twitter and Facebook pages for timely information regarding transit service. METRO also offers real-time information through its service alerts system.  METRO 's Customer Care team is available at 713-635-4000.

Customers should expect delays as we work to restore normal service.  We appreciate your patience.

METRO rail crews work to restore power.

METRORail riders can now travel normally on all three lines. Rail service is restored and fully operational. METRO maintenance crews worked overnight and through Friday morning to make repairs to an underground power system component. The failure was discovered Thursday evening and resulted in the immediate suspension of rail service on portions of the Red, Green and Purple lines.

During the outage, nearly 30 bus shuttles operated to help passengers complete their trips in Downtown Houston. METRO apologizes for delays and inconvenience that resulted from the power failure and appreciates everyone's patience.
