The estimated $319 million price tag is higher than any of the last 11 streetcar projects proposed nationwide. Factors driving up the cost include development of a hybrid power system and the need for more vehicles for the resort district's heavy traffic loads. View the full article

Transportation officials lose enthusiasm in $318 million streetcar for Anaheim

ANAHEIM – A county transportation committee recommends in a preliminary report derailing a proposed 3.2-mile, $318 million streetcar, saying it won’t likely receive federal funding for construction, and ridership projections might fall short.

Anaheim should instead examine an enhanced bus system and other options to connect ARTIC to the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Convention Center, according to a draft report by an ad-hoc committee of the Orange County Transportation Authority.
