NS Intermodal Service Alert:
Gate Closures for Jacksonville Destined ShipmentsDec 11, 2017
Our Jacksonville facility is experiencing a large increase in Intermodal volumes in the midst of the 2017 holiday season. We have taken several steps to manage the increased volumes and expedite shipment availability. These efforts have included making facility improvements consisting of adding additional parking spaces and lift tracks, repositioning chassis, and strategically managing inbound shipments.
High street dwell and sporadic chassis shortages have challenged these efforts. Winter Storm Benji further exacerbated these actions as some of our routes to and from Jacksonville were temporarily inoperable. This has resulted in a large amount of backlogged volume across the Norfolk Southern network destined to Jacksonville.
In an effort to restore network and terminal fluidity, effective 8:00pm EDT today, Monday, December 11th, all shipments originating at Charlotte, Chicago-Landers, Kansas City, Rossville, Rutherford, and St. Louis billed to Jacksonville will not be accepted.
The gate closures will only impact local-billed shipments and will not impact interline traffic. Shipments ingated prior to the gate closures will be loaded and advanced to destination as operations allow. The Jacksonville Intermodal facility will remain operational during the gate closures, and we ask that customers make every attempt to pull equipment from Jacksonville as quickly as possible. We will reopen our origin-facility gates to Jacksonville shipments as soon as conditions warrant. We appreciate your patience on this matter and regret any inconvenience this may cause.
