State Rail Authority developing study into a high speed commuter rail system

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Could West Virginians benefit from a high speed commuter rail system?

This is what the state legislature wanted to know when it passed House Concurrent Resolution 68, requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to undertake a study of the development of such a system.

Snip.......

 Fairmont-Morgantown-Pittsburgh........

There's that mis-used and over-used term "high speed" rail.  :o

Also, the proposed Fairmont--Morgantown--Pittsburgh routing was once part of the West Penn Railways' interurban network.  What goes around may come around.  :)

Buried at the end of that article is the desire to run the Cardinal daily, rather than 3 days per week.  Perhaps if they had daily service and could use it regularly, they would realize that there is no "C" in Amtrack (sic).

I do wonder how much ridership they would get on a Charleston-Huntington commuter line --- not to take anything away from those cities but is the market there to support bidirectional ridership?

Remember too that the state does have commuter rail service already, in the name of several weekday MARC trains extended beyond Brunswick to Harpers Ferry, Duffields, and Martinsburg oriented to Washington, DC. I am sure there is always room for improvements to that service.
