The following is a service update.
________________________________________________

Full Regular Service for all PM Trains Monday, September 22
#301 (midday FBG) to be replaced by Bus

VRE will return to full, regular service for both lines for this afternoon's and evening trains. The only exception is the Fredericksburg line mid-day train #301 (departing Union Station at 1:05 pm) which has been canceled. In lieu of that train, we will be operating bus service http://www.vre.org/s...e/jumpstart.htm for our Fredericksburg line passengers from our Backlick Road station on the Manassas Line.

#301 PASSENGERS

-Passengers going to Woodbridge, Rippon, Quantico, Brooke, Leeland Road ,Fredericksburg
To use the bus simply take the mid-day Manassas line train #325 which departs Union Station at 1:30 pm (For the schedule http://www.vre.org/s...ce/schedule.htm ). Detrain at the Backlick Road station to go to Woodbridge, Rippon, Quantico, Brooke, Leeland Road or Fredericksburg. Passengers planning on boarding at Franconia/Springfield to head south need to take Metrorail to Alexandria and board the Manassas line mid-day train from there. Franconia riders may use Metro for FREE by showing their VRE ticket to the Metro Station Manager to get passage from Franconia to Alexandria by Metro.

-Passengers going to Lorton
Passengers wishing to go to Lorton have two options. The first option is to take Metro to Franconia/Springfield and transfer to the Fairfax Connector Bus #303, departing at 2:45 pm. The bus will take you the intersection of Waldren Drive and Waites Way at 3:12 PM. The second option is to take Metro to the Huntington station and transfer to Metrobus #9A, which departs at 1:26 pm and arrives at the Lorton VRE station at 2:28 PM. We have opened the "Metro Option" for mid-day service only. Simply show your VRE ticket to the Metro station manager (upon entering and exiting the Metro system) to board Metrorail for free for your trip this afternoon. Also, you may show your ticket to the bus driver for free passage on the Connector bus.

-Passengers going to Franconia/Springfield:
Take Metrorail. We have opened the "Metro Option" for mid-day service only. Simply show your VRE ticket to the station manager (upon entering and exiting the Metro system) to board Metrorail for free for your trip this afternoon.
For more information visit our schedule page at http://www.vre.org/s...ce/schedule.htm for train #325's schedule.

Visit http://www.vre.org/s...e/jumpstart.htm for the schedule for this bus service.

Kudos are In Order

VRE would like to thank Amtrak, Norfolk Southern and CSX for their assistance during the storm and its aftermath. Their support and willingness to do whatever it took to take care of VRE customers was impressive and welcome.

VRE and Media

Many of you have written and called us this morning to express concern about getting information on VRE service from the media. When VRE has information to report it gives it two ways: First most media outlets are signed up for Train Talk, and like you, get the information as soon as we publish it; Second our public relations person calls and/or faxes each outlet with the information we need published.

As you can imagine the major media outlets that VRE uses were inundated with information not only about transportation, but about schools, traffic lights and power outages. We know several organizations did mistakenly give incorrect or incomplete information. VRE monitors these outlets and immediately called with corrections most of which were made. We also understand that the frequency of announcements were an issue. Again, as they had much to report, they did the best they could.

For the best information, always visit the VRE website, sign up for Train Talk (which you already did if you are getting this...) and check the 800-RIDE-VRE information line.

TRIP System Down

The TRIP system, which powers our automated and visual announcements, tracks the trains via GPS, gives updates to the 800 number and communicates with Train Brain to give it accurate information is currently down. A Dell technical representative will be on site tomorrow to replace the defective part. We expect that we will be on line tomorrow or at the latest Wednesday morning.

Train Talk #2 September 22, 2003 3:50pm ______________________________________ This is being provided as a service to our Train Talk subscribers. ______________________________________ Scattered Delays Possible on the Fredericksburg Line Tonight As we told you this morning, VRE will be operating all evening trains today. However, due to ongoing maintenance after the storm, Fredericksburg line trains may experience scattered delays before the Quantico station. At this time, it is difficult to tell how long the delay may be. We will continue to work with CSX to keep any possible delay as short as possible. As more information becomes available, we will keep you updated.
