Progressive Railroading, 6/30/14:

The Texas Department of Transportation last week voted in favor of providing a $50 million grant to the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority to help purchase additional MetroRail cars and construct a permanent, expanded downtown rail station.

Story is here.

I'm assuming that the new downtown station would also accommodate the future Lone Star Rail (L-STAR). I doubt it would be as far from downtown as the Amtrak station served by the Texas Eagle. I am glad to see service on the existing MetroRail Red Line being improved with shorter headways and later trains.

CapMetro adds more cars to Austin commuter line

The city of Austin, Tex., is counting on a bigger fleet to  translate into bigger ridership for its MetroRail commuter system.
