CSXT, FECR scurry to restore operations after series of debris-scattering, track-damaging hurricanes

For years, CSX Transportation and Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) have had plans in place to deal with operational problems and damage caused by hurricanes and tropical storms. It comes with the territory when you operate in the Sunshine State. But neither road’s plan took into account what would happen if four hurricanes and one tropical storm swept across Florida in less than two months.

So, officials at the Class I and regional found themselves rolling with and countering the punches thrown by hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, and Tropical Storm Matthew as they pounded the state in August and September.
