Ok, I have to wonder if the reporter got the wrong info or if someone at the LIRR forgot the realities of their physical plant.
By passing Woodside I can understand as if the local track is out, then there is no way to get to that platform. However, thanks to the new WOOD interlocking, a train on the express track can cross over to the local track just east of Woodside. So there should have been no reason to setup temporary platforms at those two stations.
The problem caused eastbound LIRR trains to bypass Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens before the railroad elected to use temporary platforms at those stations starting at 11:52 a.m., LIRR spokesman Rich Mendelson said.
Prior to that temporary fix, trains were running express between Penn Station and Jamaica Station and riders wanting to access Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens were asked to use the subway.

Take care and take trains!
