We are 5-1/2 months away from OTOL Florida RailFest 2008. We have people who are interested in making their hotel and travel reservations, so I felt it was time to create this Forum and to get the ball rolling with the plans. Remember that plans remain tentative, sometimes right up to the week of the event, so please for now do not make any investments that you cannot get 100% returned. In this new Forum you will find pinned topics with our Itinerary as it is now, and our planned dates. This year's event will be only three days long at our destination (Florida), and six days long including the time in Florida plus the Amtrak trips between Florida and the East Coast and between Tampa and Miami. I have officially removed any mention of Jacksonville from the plans, as the primary cast of regulars agreed that due to problems getting hotel rooms in the JAX area (plus the existence of just a People Mover) it was best to just bypass the city. Who knows, if Amtrak ever brings something back between New Orleans and Florida, perhaps we'll have another opportunity to visit Jacksonville. Please start e-mailing me if you plan to attend our fest, and whether you will be there for all of the planned activities. Some of you may wish to fly to Florida, just as we had several people fly to, from, and within California last year. With our Fest only half as long as it was last year, this opens up the possibility of another meeting later in the summer. We can discuss that later.
