A little out of the way while driving from Auto Train to my parents' place, I went into Tampa last Sunday to check the walking distance from Union Station to the streetcar, and to see just how close some hotels are to the streetcar. It is no more than a 3.5-block walk along Twiggs Street from Tampa Union Station to Channelside Drive, along which is the right-of-way for the Teco Line Streetcar. The "Port Authority" station is immediately south of where Twiggs St. meets Channelside Drive. I did see the Embassy Suites (you can't miss it in the city's skyline) and the Sheraton. However I was not able to get close to the area on account of some sports "madness" taking place that day at the St. Petersburg Times Forum. Wherever I drove, I was being flagged into parking lots I didn't want to use. I considered parking in Ybor City and riding the streetcar back to the downtown area, but as you can imagine parking was at a premium in the city. As soon as I could, I retreated northward out of town.

Where the Villanova Wildcats were defeating the Siena Saints 84-72! The "madness" ended for Villanova last night at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks, but it was a nice run. The "Block V" will stay up for while in the team's honor. Then it's back to some old railroad emblem.
