Winter weather is hitting the Washington, DC area.  Forecast was for light snow to the north and far west; some sleet closer in.  The 'Weather Guessers" missed!  The temperature has dropped and the storm has intensified.  As as of 8 am we are expecting 1-2 inches for the entire area.  Here's the earlier announcements from MARC and VRE:

MARC Service Alert 3:37 am 11/15:

MARC Train: Full service Thursday

MARC Train will operate full service on all three lines Thursday, November 15.  MARC, Amtrak, Bombardier, and CSX management are closely monitoring the impending winter storm.  The most significant impact is anticipated on the Brunswick Line in Western Montgomery County and west of Brunswick/Frederick into West Virginia.  Passengers are encouraged to exercise extreme caution in these winter weather conditions.

Additional updates will be issued if conditions warrant.  Thank you for riding MARC Train and please be careful driving to your station this morning.

VRE Train Talk Alert 4:21 am 11/15:

Possible icy conditions this morning, please use caution

Crews have been out through the night pre-treating parking lots, platforms and sidewalks. Possible freezing rain is expected, especially at our southern most stations. Please use caution this morning when both driving and walking.

Brunswick Line connecting bus disruptions due to weather

EPTA has notified MARC that due to the severe weather, there will not be connecting bus service to West Virginia for Train 873 (the 3:30pm departure from Union Station).  Passengers for West Virginia stations should ride Train 875.  The status of bus service for Train 883 will be determined later this afternoon.

Frederick TransiT is warning of delays in service also due to the severe weather.  Buses may be late arriving at and departing from Point of Rocks station.

Updates will be provided as information becomes available.

MARC Service Alert 1:43 pm:

MARC afternoon service - Winter weather

MARC Train is closely monitoring the continuing--and in many cases worsening--winter storm.  Passengers should expect greater than usual crowds on early afternoon trains.  Boarding will be stopped at Union Station when trains reach a safe capacity.  At this late stage, we are unable to add any additional railcars or trains to the schedule.  En route train delays are likely due to slick conditions and the possibility of downed trees and power lines.  The first and foremost goal of MARC, Amtrak, Bombardier, and CSX is to get you home safely.  We thank you in advance for your patience if the train you plan to ride is full and you have to wait for the next train and for any delays that may result.

We encourage our passengers to follow our safety guidelines for winter weather:

--Allow not only extra time for your commute on MARC, but most importantly, extra time to drive or walk to your station.

--Roads and sidewalks are slick. WALK, do not run, from the train to your car or final destination

--We strongly recommend wearing appropriate footwear. Men's dress shoes and women's heels are not conducive to this level of cold and slick conditions.

--Dress in layers and protect all exposed skin. This is especially important in and around your face and head.

Any delays or service issues will be posted on our website. https://nam02.safeli...&reserved=0 , on our Twitter feed @mtamaryland and sent by E-mail alert message. You can always check on the current status and location of your train on the https://nam02.safeli...&reserved=0 .

Thank you for riding MARC Train and, again, please be extra careful this afternoon.
