From Los Angeles Times, 7/11/03:

Metrolink makes tracks for Perris

Recognizing the increased congestion along Interstate 215 and Highway 60, and the many residents who leave Riverside County for work or other activities, county transportation officials plan to expand a Metrolink line by 19 miles through Moreno Valley and Perris.

That's a fairly busy corridor and would be good for transit, even better if they can extend to Temecula (and once you get there, might as well go to Escondido). As far as UCR people concerned about noise and pollution, a train is much less polluting than a equivalent number of cars or even busses. The noise is hardly more than a couple of trucks.

might as well go to Escondido

I'm already dreaming of the connection posssibilities were that to happen. Escondido is the eastern end of the Sprinter route.

Yeah, it would be a good tie-in. Don't know if anyone dreams like this or not. Metrolink and NCTD are of course, different agencies.
Something on the I-15 corridor south all the way to SD would be good as well. Maybe to the trolley in Santee or Mission Hills?

Well FWIW, Metrolink and NCTD do currently meet in Oceanside, and the connections between Metrolink's Orange CountyIEOC Lines and NCTD's Coaster are practically nonexistent. If there are any reasonable dwells between the carriers they are by accident. Sprinter, on the other hand, is a 30-minute headway diesel light rail system, so its connections with Metrolink in Oceanside are OK, and I would expect the same if they also connected with Metrolink in Escondido.
