Alert from New Orleans RTA's website:

RTA PREPARES FOR HURRICANE IVAN

RTA PREPARES FOR HURRICANE IVAN: NORMAL BUS AND STREETCAR SERVICE CONTINUES TODAY, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2004

On Tuesday, September 14, 2004, Regional Transit Authority buses and streetcars WILL operate on their normal weekday schedule. RTA is encouraging all passengers to complete their errands and preparations for Hurricane Ivan as soon as possible.

Due to the threat of the hurricane, all streetcars will be pulled off the streets tonight at midnight and buses will provide service along the St. Charles and the Canal Streetcar lines. On Wednesday, September 15, buses will operate until ten hours before the projected hit of the storm. While operating early tomorrow, service will be pared down as many businesses and all schools will be closed. Paratransit vehicles will also be taken off the streets ten hours before the storm hits. RTA's commitment to the safety of its passengers and to its employees mandates that the vehicles do not operate in hazardous situations. RTA will announce when service will resume.

Although Paratransit vehicles will be in operation until ten hours before the storm hits, those who have reservations are encouraged to use them only for medical appointments and dialysis.

RTA would also like to announce the cancellation of the 2004 Louisiana Public Transit Association (LPTA) conference scheduled to be held in New Orleans this week.

For more information, passengers may contact the RTA's Rideline at 248-3900
